Video offers multiple benefits for teaching and learning:
It gives that personal connection
Communicate more clearly with facial expressions, body language and intonation.
Now so quick and easy
It's a great creative outlet. Putting creative touches on a video is easy with many platforms.
In addition, live lessons will be crucial for bridging the gap between teachers and pupils during a period of school closure. They can be useful for 1:1 follow ups, sports coaching, peripatetic music lessons, and the like. By making full use of the technology available, especially record & share, live lessons can be a medium through which we give an even better educational experience to our pupils than is possible at school.
All teachers in our schools Trust can access via the toolbar
Teachers can record themselves to create a flipped classroom, explain difficult concepts, recap the day's main objectives, demonstrate an idea, or give students audio or video feedback on their work. They can communicate with parents as well, explaining procedures or bringing a personal touch to the traditional classroom newsletter
Videos saved automatically to Screencastify folder in Drive
Single click "Share to Classroom" feature
Now UNLIMITED for all staff, can record videos of any length
Can tun off webcam if you want to record voice only
Only staff can record meetings, see screenshots below
When you first use the RECORD feature, a folder is automatically created in Google Drive, called "Meet Recordings"
All subsequent recordings are saved to that same folder. Video files can be renamed or shared
The CHAT of a meeting is also recorded, as a text file, and saved in the same folder
Good Practice: Teachers record lessons and then update their Classroom assignment with additional link to the recording file
Students are NOT able to reshare recordings unless the teacher specifically changes the video sharing settings
Best practice is to go back to the assignment which you recorded, then EDIT the assignment, and insert the recording
Rename the recording clearly to be "VIDEO RECORDING of today's lesson (23/4/20)"
This is best practice, keeping everything within the assignment
This is awesome, and available to all staff in all schools. Let us know if you can't see the extension, it shoudl be visible to all but you MUST be logged into your school accounts to see it
For when students need to tune in, but not participate
Set up through calendar, then post the URL in Classroom
Can be recorded (and shared back) for those unable to attend
Great for whole school assemblies, lectures, talks, sermons, prayers, school concerts, prize giving etc
Key point of note - the live stream does NOT start automatically - the host needs to enter the normal 'Meet' address and click to start the stream - see screenshot below
A new Chrome extension which we've enabled for all pupils/staff in all schools, right in the toolbar.
Allows pupils - in the middle of a Google Meet - to stick their hand up, answer questions with a 👍 or a 👎, show a "confused" face and more, without interrupting the flow of the lesson.
The pupils are sure to love this feature, and it will hopefully help to engage their interest that much more.
